Introduction
Value stream mapping is a method for illustrating and analyzing the logic of a Service process. It gives a graphical overview of the flow of material and information in a service process. This is a good foundation for understanding how activities and operations are connected and forms a basis for analyses of the process. It is important to note that the whole point of doing VSM is improvement.
It Provide optimum value to the customer through a complete value creation process with minimum waste in: Design (concept to customer) –Build (order to delivery)–Sustain (in-use through life cycle to service).
Improvement events create localized improvements, value stream mapping & analysis strengthens the gains by providing vision and plans that connect all improvement activities.
We have value-added activities as nurse assessment and physician consultation with better process time and procedures.
Also, we have non- value-added activities as waiting time between each process that we have opportunities for improvement.
There are opportunities for improvement in our example of value stream map for outpatient visit as the following:
*We can reduce the waiting time, especially for patients who have a pre-file) old patient), by 50% at the registration stage by booking directly without document collection procedures, as well as follow-up patients also in the consultation stage to dispense medications only.
*We can use the waiting time to educate the patient medically through displays in the waiting areas.
*We can reduce the time in the nurse's assessment stage by using modern devices that quickly read vital signs in one device.
Summary and conclusion
Value stream map represents a core business process that adds value to a material product, a value chain diagram shows an overview of all activities within a company. Other business activities may be represented in "value stream diagrams" and/or other kinds of diagram that represent business processes that create and use business data.
